Scheherazade Tillet invites the Newark community to bring an offering for the Black Girlhood Altar, a site of remembrance that creates visibility for missing and murdered Black girls. The Newark installation of the altar evokes the spirit of protection and play. Community members may bring offerings for the altar that represent Black girlhood through objects of joy, play, and care (some examples include toys, books, affirmations, and letters.) Donated objects will become part of the traveling Black girlhood altar, and will also be provided as gifts in care packages to recent missing girls in New Jersey.
